sandalwood reforestation project
BIG ISLAND, HAWAII
The YOUNG LIVING SANDALWOOD REFORESTATION PROJECT occupies one of the most rare ecosystems in the world.
In 1857, there were so many trees here that you couldn't hang a hammock. But when agriculture moved in, the trees moved out. Now, the reforestation process begins as the two learn to co-exist in harmony. The goal is that in 100 years, it will once again be impossible to hang a hammock, with an entire 30,000 acres being full of trees.
"Blessed are those who plant trees under whose shade they will never sit."
Young Living's partnership with the Kona Sandalwood Reforestation Project is a great example of how we strive to preserve cultural values. At this location, only dead or dying sandalwood is harvested to main the ecological balance and to follow the deeply rooted Hawaiian belief in humans' responsibility to maintain a respectful relationship with the land.
