TO THE POOL WE GO!

SEVEN SUMMERTIME TOOLS FOR FUN IN THE SUN

There are so many easy tools to have in your collection to make the most out of the season so you can keep your standards of wellness in check while having fun in the sun!

CHLORINE 101

Studies have concluded that after just 40min of exposure there is a large rise in markers showing DNA damage.  Did you know, chlorine competes with iodine receptors in the thyroid gland? Iodine is essential for production of thyroid hormones.

Boys under the age of 7 swimming in chlorinated pools just 30min every 2 weeks showed significantly lower levels of testosterone, about 20% lower, than those who swam in ionized disinfected pools.

Conventional sunscreen + chlorine = toxic chemicals that can have a negative effect on the liver, kidney and central nervous system

WHEN WE KNOW BETTER, WE DO BETTER.

So what do we do when a chlorine pool is the only option?  WE SWIM! But first, we do a few things. . .

No. 1

Rinse off before swimming and shower after.

No. 2

Wear goggles and teach kids not to open eyes without them.

No. 3

Vitamin C works both internally and externally.  Take Vitamin C in divided doses daily and use a Vitamin C spray on skin and hair after swimming.

No. 4

. Geranium oil has been shown by scientists to be a natural chelator bonding to chemicals and carrying them out of the body.  Add several drops to a thin viscosity carrier oil and apply to body.   Afterward, apply a thin layer of Animal Scents Ointment to help create a barrier on the skin.

No. 5

Use Young Living mineral sunscreen to help reduce the chemicals that react to the chlorine which in turn, can help to decrease overall impact to the body.

No. 6

Hydrate adding a pinch of Himalayan salt to water and don't forget your Young Living Mineral Essence to help restore vital minerals lost to oxidative stress and exposure to the elements.

No. 7

Pick pools that offer salt water, or copper ionized pools whenever possible.

DIY VITAMIN SEA SPRAY

(from the US Masters Swimming website)

One of the most popular home remedies involves using Vitamin C to make your own after-swim chlorine remover spray. Ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate, in essence Vitamin C, neutralizes the chlorine. It’s the main ingredient in commercial chlorine removers.

DIY

To make your own, buy Vitamin C crystals and mix about 1 teaspoon in a pint-size spray bottle of water.
You can then use the spray after you get out of the pool to remove the chlorine.
Spray yourself and rub on your skin, then rinse and shower like usual.

Another option is to mix a teaspoon or so of Vitamin C crystals into your body wash and shampoo instead.

*DIY VITAMIN C CRYSTALS: grind super C chewable into a fine powder.   You can also use this as a facial exfoliate
